Women & Children First bookstore has been a prevalent part of the Chicago literary community since 1979. Not only is it a historic Chicago bookstore, but it doubles as a safe-space for the LGBTQ community and is a crucial leader in the fight for gender equality. For years Women & Children First has been a beacon in the community, offering special programs and exclusive readings by incredible authors such as Nami Mun, Rebecca Skloot and more.
Now, under new management lead by the ambitious Sarah Hollenbeck and Lynn Mooney, Women & Children First is looking to broaden its legacy in the community.
Hollenbeck and Mooney have started a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo that would raise enough money to not only renovate the store, but expand the special program offerings and commission original art and photography by Jill Kuanfung to honor Women & Children First’s illustrious history.
Perks for donating to the Women & Children First expansion campaign include a signed copy of Once I Was Cool by Megan Stielstra, a special writing salon with Gina Frangello, or your name or your company’s name displayed prominently on the new mural in the expanded section of the store.
