Rebecca Makkai and Karen Abbott Headline the 4th Annual Chicago Writers Conference, Sept. 25th-27th


New York Times best-selling author Karen Abbott (Sin in the Second CityAmerican Rose) and Rebecca Makkai (Music for Wartime) will be headlining the fourth annual Chicago Writers Conference this year.

The conference will take place at the formidable Conference Chicago (525 S State St, Chicago, IL 60605) from Friday, September 25th through Sunday, September 27th. The conference, organized by Mare Swallow, boasts an incredible array of panels, writing workshops, cocktail parties, and the famous Pitchfest, where authors can pitch their ideas to well-respected literary agents.

Featured panels this year include:

  • Breaking into Live Lit: Conquer Literature’s New Frontier, hosted by Amanda Claire Buckley
  • Read Like An Editor, hosted by Jennifer B. McDonald 
  • On Writing Crossover Fiction, hosted by Rebecca Johns
  • Branding Yourself: The Role of the Author in the Marketplace, hosted by Laurie Scheer
